How did you respond to challenges that occurred as you worked?
As I worked on the wheel, I had to respond to challenges which I have never experienced before. The wheel was difficult, and took me a good amount of time to adjust to. However, I was pleased because I took my time and after about 3 days, I finally had this bowl.
Did your work take an unexpected turn due to a mistake or did something happen that was unplanned?
I knew that I wanted to do something with the wheel, however I was unsure of exactly how to approach my plan. Therefore, when my piece came out in the shape that it did, I was both pleased and surprised.
Did you try something that you weren’t sure about as part of this project?
The wheel was a completely foreign thing to me, and trying it was awesome! It is now one of my favorite parts of sculpture.
Did you pick a material or technique that was new or different over something that was familiar?
I went with clay as usual; however I did build up on my lid which was new for me.
What type of lid did you use?
I used a lid that I put three little things with clay on the bottom to make it stay.
+ Is it functional? Why or why not?
I would rather my piece be used for display, but it can be functional to hold flowers and such.
+ What technique did you use to make your piece? Hand building? Throwing? Coiling? Slab?
For my piece I used the wheel.
